The Challenge: National Security
Driver's Licences are an accepted form of identity in many parts of the world. As a consequence, the security of Driver's Licences has come under public scrutiny as governments look for ways to strengthen national security and, in particular, identification documents that play a larger role in fighting terrorism and crime.

Document Security
Traditionally, the security of a Driver's licence as an identification document has been overlooked in favour of its primary function as a permit. As a result, Driver's licences became a target for multiple security attacks. In recent years, CBN has developed Driver's licence documents and solutions to address those security threats. Indeed, CBN's introduction of innovative card materials and card construction technologies as well as improved levels of high document security and durability is setting a new standard in the industry today. CBN combines top security printing knowledge, modern card production and personalization capabilities.

Integrated Security
In addition to direct document-related security threats (e.g. photo-substitution) there are threats that target the document issuance process (e.g. theft of genuine document blanks). With our comprehensive in-house capabilities and highly secure service bureau competence, CBN can protect customers against those attacks, too. CBN's customized national ID documents are built on CBN's security printing, system developments and integration as well as production and issuance competences.

Cooperation in Canada and the USA
CBN is actively participating in a number of initiatives in the United States, Canada, as well as internationally in an effort to enhance the security of driver's licences and related systems.
